About Us

Attack Research was founded by Valsmith (with a lot of help from many talented people!) in the winter of 2008 after his decision to move on from his previous malware research company. There were two purposes in mind when Attack Research was formed. First was to build a community focused on in depth knowledge and understanding about the way computer attacks work. From exploit, to network traffic, to client side web attack infrastructure, all aspects of attacks will be analyzed and discussed. Attack Research also provides a publishing vehicle for papers, presentations and tools related to computer attack subjects. The second purpose of Attack Research is to be a company which draws on the extensive real world experience of its members to provide unconventional training, testing, incident response, consulting and research services in the area of computer based attack.

What sets Attack Research apart is; while many sites may tell you about the latest exploit, give a summary of a piece of malware functionality, or even a "how-to" for using a particular tool, they still leave out or even censor many pertinent details and Attack Research intends to publish all aspects of attacks possible. This includes IPs, URLs, source code, packet captures and whatever knowledge that constitutes what can be determined about a particular attack. In the past this level of detail has remained in the limited domain of private mailing lists. Much as Valsmith did by opening access for malware to researchers and intrested parties so will Attack Research do for the broader aspects of attacks.

We encourage people to make their own posts on what they have found to our site and to volunteer to help. Contact us at info@attackresearch.com.
